Clyde Jack Cavender was born on May 2, 1935, to Cecilia (Tyszkowski) and Jack Clyde Cavender. He married the love of his life, Loretta (Laurie) Margaret (Dominick) Cavender on February 16, 1957. On February 14, 2025 at the age of 89, they were reunited at the gates of heaven.
Clyde attended Catholic Central in Detroit and dedicated thirty-two years at the Ford Motor Company where he worked as an engineer on the original Thunderbird and Mustang, among other vehicles. A devoted member of his community, he generously shared his compassion, time, and expertise throughout his life. He was actively involved in several Catholic churches, including St. Mark’s in Warren, St. Dennis in Royal Oak, and Guardian Angels in Clawson. Additionally, he occasionally assisted at Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home in Warren and volunteered for years in the Pastoral Care Services Department at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where he administered communion to patients.
His loving family will forever treasure the cherished memories he leaves behind: his brother Regis (Deborah); his daughter Carrie (Kirk); son Bernard (Tracey); and daughter Judith (Edward); his adored grandchildren, whom he affectionately called his “boneheads” - Keith, Bryan (Monique), Tiffany, Matthew (Abigail), Corinne, Rachel, and Zachary; his great-grandchildren Oriana, Devin, Jalen, and Niko; and his great-great-grandchildren Raymond, Nyla, and Amelia. He is also fondly remembered by several generations of nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends, including the friendships he formed in recent years at StoryPoint Senior Living Community in Novi. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was predeceased by his son, John, and his brother, Jerry.
Clyde’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of many. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with those who went before him.
As a Celebration of Life service was not held for Laurie in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will gather for a joint service honoring both her and Clyde in a warmer month ahead.
