David Evans Obituary

David Andrew Evans, 77, of Ferndale, Michigan, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 3, 2020. Born in Detroit, Michigan on April 20, 1943, Dave was the son of Eleanor (Ingersoll) and Edgar Evans. He was a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School where he achieved the Gabriel Richard Award for education excellence; Catholic University of America where he earned a BA in History and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society; and Wayne State University where he earned three advanced degrees: MA History, MA Philosophy, and PhD Philosophy.During the Vietnam War, Dave served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Saigon where he worked in Army Intelligence and earned the rank of Specialist 5. After his military service, Dave worked as a systems analyst for over 20 years with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), and over 10 years as a computer programmer with the Internal Revenue Service before retiring. Dave was a beautiful soul, with a twinkle in his eye, who loved and celebrated life to the fullest. What really defined his character was his passion for his family. Dave was a beacon and pillar of strength for his friends and family. He was proud of the professional and athletic achievements of all his children and enjoyed attending their athletic and musical events. He will be remembered as an outgoing person; Dave loved meeting, talking, and sharing lively discussions with others. He was genuine, dependable, a great and loyal friend, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Dave was also a voracious reader, an avid collector with multiple collections, and historian. Dave successfully completed a marathon and was a fitness enthusiast his entire life. Even treatments for cancer and several strokes did not deter him from walking every day he was able. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet Drouin-Evans, and brother Mark Evans.Survivors include his son Thomas (Lisa) Evans; daughters Katherine (Andrew) Durden, Sara (Brian Higgins) Evans, Rebecca (Sean) Evans-Polce, and Rachel Evans; brother Denis (Carla) Evans; sister Elizabeth (Dave) Slovik; grandchildren Penny, Edie, Hank, and Fred Durden, Zach and Alex Polce, and Astrid Higgins; sister-in-law Barbara Evans; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9068413133?pwd=ZG9hU0Q0U0JKZ0I1NlNYYXJFNlNHUT09Meeting ID: 906 841 3133Passcode: 29440
