Donna Lee began her life journey being brought into this world by her father, Orville Pelton, in a log cabin in Algonac, MI, that he built himself. Her mother, Veronica "Lee", raised Donna and her two sisters, Lonna (Bloom) and Caron (Pelton), to be strong, independent women.Donna married her husband, Thomas "Jerry" Cunningham in 1953. They shared 65 years together and raised three boys, Todd (Elizabeth), Keith (Pam) and Kyle. Donna loved her 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Colby, Taylor, Emily, Kelsey and Tyler, and always enjoyed their visits. Her face would light up when she saw them. This past year she met her great-granddaughter, Lyra.Donna loved all forms of art and was always creating something. She had more ideas and projects than she had time for. She received her Art Therapy degree from Wayne State University and worked with special needs children in Oak Park.In 1996, Tom and Donna were in a car accident and they both suffered brain injuries that changed their quality of life. Donna's creativity continued to be her outlet and she created wonderful pieces of art with the help of a therapist. The family would like to thank all of the therapists who worked with Donna and helped enrich her life.Donna had the best caregivers that watched over her and helped make her life more meaningful. The family would like to thank them for the years of love and compassion they showed for Donna.A celebration of Donna's life is being planned for her immediate family and close friends. If you would like to further honor her life donations are requested to go to the Brain Injury Association of Michigan (www.biami.org).Please share your stories or memories of Donna in the comments below.
