GLADYS J. FUYDAL 07-16-1931 - 4-13-2020 Gladys (Gladie) Fuydal, formerly of Long Beach Island, New Jersey, passed away on April 13, 2020 at St. Anne's Mead in Southfield, Michigan. She was born in Brenham, Texas on July 16, 1931, the youngest of 14 children. Gladie moved to Detroit with her mother as a young child and as a young adult moved to New Jersey, remaining there until returning to Michigan in 2018. She married the love of her life, Ron Fuydal, in 1965, and they were blessed with over 52 years filled with infinite love and devotion. They enjoyed traveling to visit out-of-state family members and friends and spent many winters in Florida. She was a manager at Bell Atlantic and retired in 1995. Gladie's unwavering faith in God provided the strength to bravely face ongoing challenges from the serious stroke she suffered in 1996. While this significantly impacted their quality of life, she accepted it with grace. She enjoyed watching EWTN and attending the rosary and mass at St. Anne's Mead that occurred almost daily. They were among her favorite activities. She dearly loved and cherished her family and friends, taking great interest in their lives. She was always happy for even the smallest of their joys or achievements and was quick to provide encouragement. She was very supportive and could easily make you smile and feel good. While living in New Jersey, they were blessed with many loving and loyal friends, especially their former caregiver Peggy and caregiver manager Kathi, who became part of the family. The highlight of the day was when someone stopped by to visit, especially when the visit included children, particularly Will and John. She also thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the many new friendships formed after returning to Michigan. Gladie was an ardent, lifelong Tiger's fan. As a teenager, she would attend as many games as possible, often skipping class and using saved-up lunch money to buy a bleacher seat ticket. She and her friends would routinely stand at the Players' Gate to greet the players when they arrived, and many of the players came to know her by name. She didn't hesitate to stop the car of Tiger's owner Walter Briggs as he entered the stadium to compliment him on the great job he was doing. Later in life, she attended some of the World Series games with her brother Nick. Last September, her kindred-spirit friend Aleen took her to a game where they were approached by Al Kaline for some Tiger talk and a photo opportunity. Predeceased by her beloved husband Ron (2018), survived by brother Nick Joswiak, sisters-in-law Joanne Joswiak and Victoria Joswiak, and many nieces and nephews. Gladie will be greatly missed by many. A memorial mass will be held at a future date.
