Mary Ann Tess

Mary Ann Tess, age 101, of Pleasant Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2021.

She was born on October 28, 1920 in Warren, Ohio, the only child of Florence Serandon and Jack Blaze.  Mary Ann was later adopted by her step-father Phillip Miutz.  Her other step-fathers were Arthur Petter Anderson and Frank Jakowenko.  She married Joe Stanley Tess on May 3, 1942 in Detroit and they celebrated 71 years together until his death on April 24, 2013.

Mary Ann worked as a hairdresser until the birth of her first child in 1946.   She loved flowers and plants and could bring life to any wilted plant with her “green thumb”.

Preceding Mary Ann in death are her parents and step-fathers as well as her husband, Joe.  She is survived by her 3 children, Roark (Diane) Tess of Lansing, Cyndy (Daniel) Groulx of Ottawa, Canada, and Chance Tess of Hazel Park; 5 grandchildren, Shelley (Jason) Helton of Plymouth, Cheryl (John) Nicewicz of Byron Center, Ryan (Candice) Tess of Lansing; James Groulx of Ottawa, Canada; and Jessica (Jose) Navarro of Auburn Hills; 6 great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Helton; Kodey & Kase Nicewicz; Kaelyn, Owen and Dalton Tess.

The family wishes to thank Mary Ann’s Caregiver, Michelle Watson, for her many years of caring for our Dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.  

There will be no services.  According to Mary Ann’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  The Wessels & Wilk Funeral Home in Pleasant Ridge handled details.  Online condolences may be made at www.wesselsandwilk.com.
