Rui-Feng Wang Obituary

Rui-Feng Wang, a distinguished agricultural geneticist and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home on April 13, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 13, 1942, in Kobe, Japan, Mr. Wang’s remarkable life was marked by a passionate commitment to scientific advancement, a profound love for nature, and an unwavering dedication to his family.

Mr. Wang earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Genetics from the University of Tsukuba, formerly Tokyo Education University. His early career led him to Beijing, China, in 1965, where he served as an Agricultural Geneticist at the Natural Science Academy of China. In 1981, he immigrated to Michigan, where he continued his notable research at the University of Michigan. His work spanned the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences before advancing to the School of Dentistry, Department of Prosthodontics, where his expertise contributed to groundbreaking developments in his field.

Among his proudest professional accomplishments, Mr. Wang was named an inventor on a United States patent in 2000 for the "Method for Combining Physical Objects Using Polar Coordinate Statistical Analysis." Beyond his scientific innovations, his and his wife’s sponsorship of the Wan-Xian Ting (The View of My Home Village) Pagoda in Beijing in 2004 reflects their deep cultural engagement. Furthermore, his 2017 launch of a 30-year dedicated exhibit at the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan, underscored his lifelong commitment to education and heritage.

Mr. Wang married his beloved wife, Chu-Chiang Lin, on January 13, 1967. His greatest joy and devotion, however, were reserved for his family. A loving husband and father of two daughters, Chen (William Kulish) Wang and Hsin (Thomas Li) Wang, he consistently placed their well-being ahead of his own desires, embodying a spirit of selflessness and care. He was also a proud grandfather to Jacqueline Li and Alexander Li. His familial bonds extended to his sisters Rui-Yun Wang and Yoshiko Higashihara, his brother Junichi Ohara, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who remembered him fondly: ToGaku, ToKou, Kotaro, Takujiro, Junko, Kotaro, and Miako.

A lifelong lover of nature, Mr. Wang found joy in the outdoors and dedicated over three decades to planting and nurturing thousands of trees on his cherished six-acre property in Dexter, Michigan. He also delighted in maintaining his trees, listening to classical music, and building diverse birdhouses and bird condominiums, passions that reflected his gentle spirit and his reverence for life’s simpler pleasures.

His legacy is also touched by the memories of those who preceded him: his father Rong-Hua Wang, mother Jiao-E Chen, siblings Shigemi Kobayashi, Ling-Jia Wang, Xue-Yun Wang, Rui-Yun Wang, Yoshiko Higashihara, Jun-ichi Ohara and a younger brother each remembered with love and respect.

The family will receive friends for Visitation on April 17, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wessels & Wilk Funeral Home, located at 23690 Woodward Ave, Pleasant Ridge, Michigan.
