Thomas E. Foster Jr. was born in Asheville, North Carolina to the proud parents of Alice and Thomas E Foster Sr. (both preceded him in death). He was the eldest son of four brothers: Baron Foster, Duane Foster, and Gregory Foster Sr., who also preceded him in death, and younger brother to Paula Waters.
Thomas graduated from Detroit’s Mumford High School in 1966 then pursued college studies at Tennessee State University, only to leave early to marry Carlotta King in 1967. After their union, he joined the United States Air Force and welcomed their only son Thomas E. Foster III. While in the Air Force, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and worked as an instructor, teaching U.S. and allied forces officers at the now closed Chanute Air Force Base in Champaign, Illinois.
The free-spirited Tom Foster was active and learned in various industries. Known as a “people person” and hard worker, these are just some of the positions he held in his lifetime:
Former Branch Manager at AVCO Financial Services,
Former VP of Operations at Black Hawk Savings and Loan, Rock Island, Illinois
Bouncer in local bars, both Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa
Former employee of Tony’s Pizza, Rock Island, Illinois
Former Branch manager at Hickory Point Bank, Springfield, Illinois
Former co-owner of a mobile store, Mississippi
Test Center Administrator at Prometric Testing Center, California
Former Radio Shack employee where he finally entered retirement, Michigan
Even in retirement, he continued helping family and friends where he lived. He helped his fellow senior citizens with mobile, PC, and Internet assistance. Before his transition, he received his certification and training to work in Barton Manor Co-op’s leasing office where he lived.
His hobbies included bowling, listening to blues and jazz music, shooting pool, golfing, and of course, drinking and shooting the breeze with family and friends.
"In the late hours" of Dec.16, 2023, the Lord called Thomas home while at his apartment in Royal Oak, Michigan.
He leaves behind his son Thomas E. Foster III (Christa Foster); sister Paula Waters; step-children: Darren Sanders, Shamla Sanders (Dorothy Carson), Rodney Rodgers (Vickie Redd), and YaVonne Maclin (Marylnn Foster); nieces and nephews: Angela Waters, Fred Waters Jr, Reshounn Foster, Sabrina Wilson, Alicia Grear, Andreya Nunn, Gregory A.
